Geisel Kicks Off Strategic Planning Process

On Tuesday, Oct. 12, faculty, staff, students, and alumni from across the Geisel School of Medicine, as well as other key stakeholders, gathered for a half-day retreat to kick off the school’s 2021 Strategic Planning Process, which is expected to run through February 2022. This comprehensive process, involving all missions of the school, will engage the Geisel community in developing a plan to guide our future investments for growth, determining the direction of the school for many years to come.

“I want to thank everyone who participated in the Strategic Planning retreat last week,” said Duane Compton, PhD, dean of the Geisel School of Medicine. “The goal of this process is to put Geisel on a path to being a stronger organization with an even greater impact. During the retreat, we received important insights and ideas from this group of people who are truly passionate about the education and research missions of our medical school.”

In a previous letter to the Geisel community announcing the retreat, Dean Compton shared why this process is important for the school at this time, “Our most recent strategic plan was developed at a time when we needed to take purposeful steps to address a financial challenge faced by the school. Many of the goals articulated in that plan have been accomplished, and now that we have built a strong financial foundation, it is time to cast our view forward with a plan for building on areas of excellence and identifying areas of growth.”
