A Dartmouth study showed that mortality is lower for cancer patients treated at institutions designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) than at non-NCI centers. Dartmouth's Norris Cotton Cancer Center is one of only 65 NCI-designated centers in the country (and one of only 40 designated as a comprehensive cancer center). Mouse over the diagram above to see the reduction in 1-year mortality for patients treated at NCI centers for four different kinds of cancer.
