About Us
Dartmouth Medicine seeks to convey the breadth and depth of the education, research, and patient-care activities of DMS and DHMC; to serve as a publication of historical record; to stimulate thought and discussion on issues in medicine and medical education; and to reflect the range of opinions and activities among Dartmouth medical students, faculty, and alumni. Among abbreviations used regularly in the magazine are DMS (Dartmouth Medical School), DHMC (Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center), MHMH (Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital), DC (Dartmouth College), and HS (housestaff). The opinions of contributors do not necessarily reflect those of DMS or DHMC.
Dartmouth Medicine is published four times a year—the Fall issue in late September, Winter in late December, Spring in late March, and Summer in late June. The magazine was established in 1976. For its first eight years, it was published twice a year. For the next two years, it was published three times a year. It has been a quarterly publication since 1987-88.
The magazine has been available online since 2002. Its current, dramatically enhanced online presence was launched in July 2005.

Editorial Internship Program - Editorial Internship Details and How to Apply
DARTMOUTH MEDICINE magazine offers a formal editorial internship open to college students and recent graduates. Internships are available both during the summer and through the academic year. Interns will work closely with the regular editorial staff in the DMS Office of Publications and devote most of their time to contributing to the magazine: reporting; interviewing; researching; writing; editing; fact-checking; proofreading; supervising photo shoots; and providing other help, as needed, to the other members of the staff. Candidates should have an interest in writing about science and medicine in a way that is both understandable and interesting to general audiences and to medical professionals. Interns may also contribute to the DMS ALUMNI NEWS & NOTES, another periodical put out by the office. In addition, interns attend all regular editorial meetings and have a chance to observe and take part in editorial decision-making. Having a science background is advantageous but not required.
Circulation
Dartmouth Medicine's print edition has a circulation of about 28,000. About 60% of its readers are involved in some way in medicine—as physicians, biomedical scientists, medical students, nurses, etc.—and about 40% are lay—patients, donors, parents, residents of the region, etc.
