FEATURES
Allegro e Appassionato
By Laura Stephenson Carter
Dartmouth Medical School's dean keeps a fast and furious pace as he champions DMS both internally and externally. And singing the School's praises is something he does with passion.
Dying Well
By Jennifer Durgin,
Sheila Harvey Tanzer,
and Lynda Hynes Gagne
Slowly but surely, Americans are coming to see death not as a failure on the part of medicine but as a natural part of life. DHMC is leading the way in this movement, as described here. And a pair of related stories recount deaths realized in this manner: one after a life measured in many decades, one after a life measured in hours.
The pages of peer-reviewed scientific journals may not be very colorful, but they are the lifeblood of an academic medical center. The information in journals is essential to clinicians and researchers alike, and journals are the medium through which discoveries made at Dartmouth are spread across the country and around the world. That's why both librarians and academics are worried about some changes taking place in scientific publishing.
