Slowly but surely, Americans are coming to see death not as a failure on the part of medicine but as a natural part of life. DHMC is leading the way in this movement, as described here. And a pair of related stories recount deaths realized in this manner: one after a life measured in many decades, one after a life measured in hours.
The pages of peer-reviewed scientific journals may not be very colorful, but they are the lifeblood of an academic medical center. The information in journals is essential to clinicians and researchers alike, and journals are the medium through which discoveries made at Dartmouth are spread across the country and around the world. That's why both librarians and academics are worried about some changes taking place in scientific publishing.
