Art of Medicine

Roger P. Smith, Ph.D.

"Roger P. Smith, Ph.D."
Pastel on Paper, 18 inches by 24 inches
By Robert E. Gosselin, M.D., Ph.D.

Both the artist and the subject of the portrait above are emeritus members of the DMS Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. They worked together for years as faculty colleagues and as coauthors of a book considered the bible of poison hotlines—Clinical Toxicology of Commercial Products. And neither is sitting on his hands in retirement: Gosselin has executed dozens of portrait commissions, including many of DMS faculty members. And Smith wields not a paintbrush but a pen (metaphorically speaking), including as a regular contributor to Dartmouth Medicine. See here for a sample of his literary artistry.
