Professional Experience:
October 1987 to present
Full-time sports writer for The Valley News, a daily newspaper in
West Lebanon, New Hampshire. Duties include covering sports events of
15 area high schools, as well as at Kimball Union Acadamy in Meriden,
New Hampshire and at Dartmouth College. Also compile weekly recreation page
that includes calendar of activities of area recreation departments, and
items about area residents' activities and accomplishments in recreational
sports. Other duties include editing and organizing of copy from
correspondents and from wire services on deadline.
Write occasional freelance articles for Dartmouth Medicine magazine on athletic activities of current and former Dartmouth Medical School students. Have also written stories about sports events at Dartmouth for The Washington Post.
April 1984-October 1987
Full-time, general-assignment reporter for The Vineyard Gazette, which
publishes twice a week during the summer and once a week between
October and May on the island of Martha's Vineyard off the coast of
Massachusetts. Wrote about local government and politics of each of
the island's six towns, as well as about island-wide organizations
such as the school district, the county airport and the hospital.
Also wrote human-interest feature articles on a wide range of people
and subjects.
December 1980-January 1984
Full-time, general-assignment reporter for the Newport Daily News,
which publishes six days a week and circulates in Newport, R.I., and
three neighboring towns. Wrote about local government, police and court
news, as well as human-interest feature articles and editorials. Duties
also included filling in as newsroom receptionist and writing
obituaries, wedding announcements and birth announcements.
