Worthy of note: Honors, awards, appointments, etc.

Robert Porter, M.D., an associate professor of anatomy and of surgery, was presented with the Federation of State Medical Boards' Distinguished Service Award at the annual meeting of the organization. His contributions to the federation include serving as national president in 1995-96.

James Barrett, M.D., a research professor of psychiatry emeritus, recently received the Distinguished Service Award of the American Psychopathological Association at the group's annual meeting. He has held a number of leadership posts in the association.

Heinz Valtin, M.D., the Vail and Hampers Professor of Physiology Emeritus, was this year's recipient of the Roy G. Daggs Award of the American Physiological Society "in recognition of distinguished service to the society and to the science of physiology." The award was presented at the annual meeting of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.
