DMS Class Day 2006: Lots of good cheer despite absence of sun
On DMS's Class Day, the rain was coming down outdoors but the mood was upbeat indoors. Neither the graduates, including 1 Shanon Connolly, nor the dignitaries, including 2 Dean Stephen Spielberg, leading the academic procession; keynote speaker Antonia Novello; and DMS's associate deans, let the weather spoil the occasion. Among the M.D. graduates with smiles on their faces were 3 Meredith Sorensen and Lisa Ernst (the latter the winner of the top student prize, the Dean's Medal) and 4 Raj Joshi and Sandy Chan. 5 Spielberg presided over the ceremony, which included student speeches by 6 M.D. grad Jean-Paul Dedam and 7 Ph.D. grad Koren Nishina. 8 Biochemist Nancy Speck, left—with her doctoral advisee Christina Matheny—was among the many faculty members present to celebrate their students' successes. And among the other graduates reveling in the festive event were 9 M.P.H. grads Christine Tolis, left, and Patricia Munseri and 10 M.D. grad Jodi Leverone.
