Katherine Vonderhaar

Katherine Vonderhaar (editorial intern for Fall 2008) is a member of the Class of 2010 at Dartmouth College. During her freshman winter term, she worked as a volunteer in Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center's Same-Day Surgery waiting room. At the hospital, she picked up her first copy of DARTMOUTH MEDICINE--the breadth of its articles and its professional layout made a lasting impression on her.

Kate, who is from Wheaton, Ill., and a biology major at Dartmouth, loves learning about human biology. She's exploring ways to integrate this passion into a career. Science writing, she says, is an exciting possibility since it's a job that involves learning about science and then sharing that knowledge with others. Before becoming an editorial intern, she spent a year doing research in the lab of Ann Clark, Ph.D.--professor and chair of Dartmouth's Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences--and three terms as a copy editor for the daily campus newspaper.

Kate was DARTMOUTH MEDICINE's first funded intern, thanks to a generous grant from Dartmouth's Rockefeller Center. As an intern, Kate wrote articles that increased public awareness of complex medical issues. Now in her final year at Dartmouth, she's exploring job opportunities that integrate her passions for education and public health.

Kate can be reached by e-mail at: Katherine.Y.Vonderhaar@Dartmouth.edu.
