Boer Deng

Boer Deng (editorial intern for Winter 2009) is a member of the Class of 2010 at Dartmouth College. Deng, who hails from Texas, is majoring in English, with a minor in chemistry.

Boer's love for linguistic expression and experimental discovery has fueled her interest in science communication. She has first-hand experience working in labs--as a teaching assistant in Dartmouth chemistry labs and as a research assistant in a DMS physiology lab studying Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. She has many other talents, too. She's fluent in Mandarin Chinese and has been a Chinese Language tutor and drill instructor at Dartmouth. She's been a program assistant in the Pre-freshman Engineering Program at the University of Texas-San Antonio, as well as an administrative assistant at a law firm in San Antonio. As if that weren't enough, she's a ballet dancer who, with two friends, started a ballet organization that teaches classical ballet technique to Dartmouth students. They hope to expand the program to reach community members of all ages in the Upper Valley.

After interning with DARTMOUTH MEDICINE, Boer will be spending her summer doing cancer drug research and development for AstraZeneca at their lab in Waltham, MA, and plans to spend a term abroad at the University of Glasgow studying English. She hopes to continue writing for DARTMOUTH MEDICINE, as the internship has greatly solidified her interest in science writing.
